Arab.com Sells for $225,000 To Seal The Strongest Week of Domain Sales So Far in '04!

Last week we told you the late breaking sale of VisitFlorida.com would likely lead this week's DNJournal.com Top Ten chart. After all, only a handful of reported sales have topped that $168,000 transaction this year. So who could have guessed that deal would end up a distant second once all of the data from the past 7 days was in?!

Bashar Al-Abdulhadi, President and CEO of KuwaitNET Internet Services pushed VisitFlorida.com aside when he laid out $225,000 to purchase Arab.com from the owners of Arabia.com. At the same time Al-Abdulhadi spent an additional $18,000 to acquire Dubai.net from the same company. Bashar sent us copies of the sales documents for Arab.com which now ranks as the 5th biggest sale reported year to date (with VisitFlorida.com one notch behind). VisitFlorida.com was purchased by the State of Florida's non-profit tourist marketing agency in a deal announced just as we were going to press last week.

From top to bottom, this was by far the strongest week of reported domain sales since we began compiling data in October 2003. For the first time, every domain on our weekly Top Ten chart hit five figures. In fact, three more domains in that lofty range didn't even make the list! It's the first time any five-figure domain has missed making the big board.

GreatDomains made an especially strong showing, taking 3 of the top 6 slots after selling #3 Typing.com for $50,000, #4 Gray.com for $30,000 and #6 MSG.com for $20,000! Sedo.com and Pool.com each landed two domains on the new Top Ten to round out the chart.

You can see that Sedo scored with #5 SSI.com at $25,000 and #10 Lust.com at $12,269, but they also had two more five-figure deals that would have charted in any other week but this one! Those were Websense.co.uk at $11,890 and JPT.com at an even $10,000. That's certainly not a bad thing as it indicates increasing depth in a domain market that is already booming. To further illustrate that, Sedo had a basket full of solid four-figure sales to report. Those included Fliegen.com ("fly" in German) at €4,500 ($5,553), Meisterhand.com ("master touch" in German) at $5,500 and TW4.com at £2,100 ($3,841). That's a big number for a 3-character .com, but when the right buyer comes along you never know where negotiations will go.

As always, Germany's .de was prominent in the Sedo mix. PrivatKredite.de ("personal loans" in German) and Aktienkurs.de ("stock price" in German) each attracted €2,900 ($3,579). They added another $3,500 for 178.com, plus $2,300 for Mineralia.net and $2,250 for VideoLoad.com. Sedo also racked up a trio of four-figure new extension sales that we will talk more about in our New TLD section.

The story was much the same at Pool where the numbers were big from top to bottom. In addition to their two Top Ten entries: #8 Shareholders.com at $15,500 and #9 HeadGear.com at $15,000, Pool had a third five-figure sale, the high traffic misspell Eqifax.com at $10,099 (Eqifax.com scores 1310 in Overture with the extension). Their other winners included RealVideo.com at $7,600, CanadianAutoInsurance.com at $6,766 and BuildingConstruction.com at $4,100. Lenscrafter.com and OHZ.com attracted $3,100 each, while Champignon.com ("mushroom" in French) added a tasty $2,800. In other extensions, sales were completed for two domains previously reported in our Pipeline, Junior.net ($4,880) and WIL.net ($3,388), as well as Excel.org at $2,138. Pool also sold Pretender.com for $2,600 from the new Marketplace section of their site

Afternic.com had a pair of sales that would have reached the Top Ten most any other week, FedForms.com at $8,000 and 7N.com at $7,000. They even sold a lengthy 3-word domain, SmileWith Confidence.com for $3,360. Other notables from Afternic were Adware.net at $3,088 and ForeignDrugs.com at $2,500.

The winning streak also continued at Enom's Club Drop. Completed transactions there included DunnAndBradstreet.com at $6,800, PRD.com (as you've undoubtedly noticed by now, it was a BIG week for 3-letter .coms) at $5,100 and RoomsForent.com (yes, one "r" is missing) at $4,800. Club Drop also sold ComingOut.com for $2,500, EquityPlus.com for $2,300 and Communities.net for $1,600.

Still more significant sales were reported from private transactions involving domainers we are familiar with. Chad Wright hit the daily double, selling FreeSpyware.com and wwwSpyware.com for $9,000 each. Meanwhile Jeffrey Reynolds scooped up what appears to be a real bargain on Ebay, getting BushCheney.com for $5,000. As you no doubt know, KerryEdwards.com has been in the news the past few weeks with value estimates ranging as high as six figures. Reynolds thinks the fact that a lot of buyers are concerned about fraudulent domain auctions at Ebay held the bidding down. He decided it was worth the risk though and said the transfer went smoothly when the auction ended. DNForum.com members Elequa and Wot completed two notable deals at that venue, with Wot selling Toxin.com ($3,500) and Feat.com ($2,300) to Elequa.

In the Pipeline: Looking ahead to next week, several nice ones are moving through the pipeline again. At Pool, an auction for Refurbished.com ended at $32,000. Meanwhile, at Enom's Club Drop, LastMinuteTravelDeals.com closed at $13,000 and RoutenPlanner.com ended at $9,200. They also saw high bids of $6,800 for InteriorDesigns.com and $5,700 for CanadianCarInsurance.com. Club Drop has had a problem with bidders failing to make payment though. Three domains previously reported in the pipeline, Kinko.com, ProGolfShop.com and EVZ.com are all currently being re-auctioned since the original high bidders did not pay.
